JKLF leader Javaid Mir quits Hurriyat (M) over ideological differences

Javid Ahmad Mir on Tuesday formally quit the Hurriyat Conference-led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.

Chief of his faction of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, the 56-year-old pro-freedom leader said that he resigned over differences between him and Mirwaiz that had started in September last year.

“A week ago, I sent a written communication to my representative across the Line of Control (LoC) in Azad Kashmir. I have written that my faction of JKLF would no longer be part of Mirwaiz-led Hurriyat,” he said, quoted media reports.

Mir was part of the famous HAJY group of JKLF militants, with Yasin Malik, Hamid Sheikh and Ashfaq Wani.

In 1994, the JKLF laid down arms in a ceasefire to continue a “peaceful struggle”.
