Hurriyat says ED notice to Geelani an attempt to pressurise him

Srinagar: While terming the notice issued by New Delhi’s Enforcement Directorate (ED) as unjustified and politically motivated, Hurriyat Conference Thursday said that move is an attempt to pressurize and intimidate Syed Ali Geelani and the resistance leadership.

“The notice is a pressure tactic aimed at deterring the pro-freedom people from advocating their just cause, said spokesman.

A spokesman said, “Delhi has tried all its moves to cow down Geelani’s resolve and these state-sponsored tactics won’t deter us from pursuing our mission nor will these coercions, suppressive and aggressive measures make us to surrender”.

Authorities are desperate, hence are levelling fabricated charges against Geelani, said spokesman and asked them to desist from such follies and deceitful ploys.

Earlier, Enforcement Directorate had issued a notice to senior resistance leader Syed Ali Geelani in an alleged money laundering case.

Sources said that Geelani has been asked to appear before Enforcement Directorate in person.

The case according to sources dates back to year 2002.

Pertinently, in June 2002, USD 10,000 was allegedly found during searches by the Income Tax department at Geelani’s residence in Hyderpora.

Last month, the ED had framed money laundering charges against another resistance leader Shabir Shah and alleged hawala dealer Mohammad Aslam Wani in a 2005 case of alleged terror funding.
