Inhabitants whose hamlets were declared unsafe yet to be relocated
Srinagar: The residents living the 11 villages of Tangdar are up in arms against the administration for ‘failing to rehabilitate them’ after 2005 earthquake whose villages were declared as unsafe by the Geology and Mining department.
The 11 villages including Sangri Nawa Gabra, Tangdar Naar, Gumul, Trehbooni, Haridal, Teetwal, Batla, Bahadurkot, Pingla, Shahree, Dregid Gundi Shaat and Kani pora Maqaam were declared as unsafe by the authorities after the 2005 earthquake jolted the Valley.
The villagers said that the government at that time assured them that they will be rehabilitated soon. “The previous government had identified the land to rehabilitate us but the land was not suitable,” the residents said, adding that they appealed the government to identify other location for their rehabilitation.
They said that rains and snow from past several days has triggered landslides at Kuthlari which has also resulted in partial damage to the houses in Tangdar Bakhanya. “We are being forced to remain out of our homes during the night hours to remain vigilant over the landslides,” they said.
They later appealed the government to look into the matter and redress their genuine grievances at the earliest.
Tehsildar Karnah, Nisar Ahmad Hawan while admitting that the residents of these villages are facing hardships said that the govt had identified the land for them but they were reluctant to live there. “Will raise the issue to the higher ups again,” he said.
