Resistance Leadership calls for protests against civilian killings after Friday prayers

The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) of Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Muhammad Umer Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik on Thursday called for a valley-wide protest after Friday prayers against the killing of civilians one in district Shopian and another in Kupwara.

JRL has appealed people to observe protest after Friday congregational prayers.

A woman was killed in South Kashmiri’s Shopian district on Tuesday during an gunfight in which two militants were also killed. Another woman was also killed in Handwara district by the forces during an encounter last week.

Earlier, the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) had called for a valley-wide shutdown on Wednesday against the ‘recent killings and search operations’ in South and North Kashmir.

Terming the ongoing killings of innocent men and women by ‘Indian trigger happy forces’ as agonizing, JRL in a joint press release have said that spree of brutal killings has crossed every limit and has now become intolerable.

On Wednesday State Human Rights Commission had the directed Deputy Commissioner and SSP Kupwara to file a detailed report about the killing of another civilian, a taxi driver, Asif Iqbal.

Asif Iqbal, a resident of Thandipora Kupwara was killed by Army in an ambush a couple of days back. The army termed the incident as death in ‘cross fire’.
