Protest held by JKLF against civilian killings, Malik arrested

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) staged a protest in Srinagar on Friday against the recent killings of civilians by armed forces. Earlier this morning, the chairman of JKLF Mohammad Yasin Malik was arrested by police from his residence and immediately shifted to central jail Srinagar on a judicial remand.

After congregational Friday prayers, JKLF leaders assembled in Maisuma and took out a march against the killings of civilians, especially two women in Shopian and Handwara.

Rubeena Jan of Batmurran Shopian and Misra Begum, of Unisoo Handwara, were killed during gunfights between armed forces and militants few days ago.

The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) of Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Muhammad Umer Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik on Thursday had called for a valley-wide protest after Friday prayers against the killing of civilians.

Following the JRL call for protests, the district administration Srinagar has decided to impose restrictions in Srinagar areas falling under the jurisdiction of seven Police Stations on Friday.
