‘New Delhi pursuing its old policy of Carrot and Stick’
‘Government of India using NIA to tighten its grip on Kashmir’
Srinagar: The opposition National Conference (NC) has accused government of India of using National Investigation Agency (NIA) to tighten its grip over Kashmir.
NC’s additional general secretary Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal in a statement has said, “There is no denial of the fact that the government of India since 1947 has been using several agencies in Kashmir to crush the dissent and tighten its grip over the region. At present, it is NIA that is being used against the separatist leaders by the government of India.”
He added that New Delhi has always been adopting the carrot and stick policy in Kashmir and its main objective has, since 1947, been to pro-long its control over the territory.
Kamal further added, “at times, it is New Delhi that keep knocking separatist doors, asking it to talk to its envoys and at times, it is the same government that uses investigative agencies against it. The same is happening at present.”
While maintaining that it is widely acknowledged fact that resistance leaders including Syed Ali Geelani represent a cause that is deeply rooted in Kashmir since 1931 Kamal, said that ‘separatist’ is not a proper term to be used for Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik.
“They are resisting against the control of New Delhi in Kashmir and therefore they are not separatists but the resistance leaders. It is the cause which is stronger and will remain till the dispute isn’t resolved as per the wishes and the aspirations of the people of Kashmir,” Kamal said.
