Gujjar, Bakarwals hold protest, demand separate quota for the community

Bandipora: Gujjar and Bakerwal community on Monday carried out a protest march in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district demanding a separate STGB quota for the community.

Large number of protesters assembled at Sports Stadium Bandipora, and took out a peaceful march, that culminated at Nishat Park.

“The community candidates are not getting benefits under Schedule Tribe Category given to them. All the benefits, rights, schemes, posts reserved for GB community being snatched by the people belonging to Gurez, Tehsil of Bandipora District, because they are also having the Status of Schedule Tribe which has created confusion among Gurezi and Gujjar Bakerwals,” the protesters said.

They also alleged that Gujjar Bakerwal community is getting neglected at every front, be it in the Government jobs or in Development sector because all the funds are being diverted towards Gurez sector while a minor share of Tribal funds are being used in areas of Gujjar Bakerwals.
