Seeks attention on disturbing financial situation of JK Bank

Jammu: Communist Party of India (Marxist) Secretary and MLA Kulgam Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami here on Tuesday told the Assembly that powers vested with the Assembly and parliament have been gifted to GST council to make the tax collection departments unaccountable before the assembly and the parliament.

Taking part in the debate on budget in the state assembly, Tarigami said that the notes demonetized by the central government have come back to the market and aftershocks the GST in the state and other parts of the country are continuing.

Tarigami sought a special debate on the state’s only listed company, Jammu and Kashmir Bank in the house.

Reminding the government that state was the largest shareholder in the J&K Bank, Tarigami said “It is the state’s largest financial institution but ironically it remains unaccountable before the house of people”. “On this, I question the wisdom of government as why it is unaccountable.”

“Many things are coming to fore; the health of J&K Bank is weak let us discuss it in the house; let Finance Minister call for a special debate,” Tarigami told the speaker while seeking attention of Leader of Opposition, Omar Abdullah, over the issue.
