Srinagar: Former Union Minister and senior Congress leader, Prof Saif-ud-din Soz on Tuesday said that Jamat-e-Islami Hind’s statement regarding ‘growing fascism’ in India should be a matter of great concern to all Indians.

“It should be a matter of great concern to all Indians, irrespective of their religious denominations, that Jamat-e-Islami Hind is extremely fearful about growing fascism in India and, in its opinion, the future of democracy is bleak in India,” Soz said in statement, adding that “when I saw the statement, I felt alarmed on this development.”

“I have known Jamat-e-Islami Hind as one of the most transparent Muslim organizations in India, showing utmost respect to the Constitution of India. Jamat-e-Islami Hind had all along taken the position that since all people are equal before the Constitution of India, no community or individual should be fearful about the future,” he said.

Soz said that now this organization too has expressed apprehensions that the future of India’s democracy is not safe and the present dispensation has decided openly to promote majoritarianism and all minorities are at the receiving end.

“This democratically functioning organization is now of the opinion that it is not that India is growing into fascism, but the fascism is already here,” he said. “It is not a good omen for the country as this organization is disciplined and it has always been working transparently and democratically. This organization by its own constitution stands committed to promote human brotherhood in India,” he added.
