Pays tributes to martyrs of Gawkadal

Srinagar: Jammu Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) has paid tributes to the ‘martyrs’ of Gawkadal on the eve of Gaw Kadal Massacre. A senior party leader Farooq Khan said in a statement that Kashmir is a land of tragedies where Indian forces have committed massacres on every nook and corner.

“The Irony is that the killers involved in these massacres have not been dealt with as per law instead they have been promoted for killing Kashmiri Muslims.”

He said that more than 50 innocent people were killed in Gawkadal area of Srinagar on January 21 in 1990 when Indian forces resorted to indiscriminate firing on peaceful demonstrators who were protesting against the molestation of several women by troops in Chotabazar area of Srinagar, the previous night.

“During the last three decades Indian troops and police personnel have killed more than one lakh Kashmiri people for demanding for right to self determination,” DPF said.

The party appealed to the international human rights organizations to play their role in conducting impartial investigation into the incidents of all massacres in the territory to punish the perpetrators.

In January 1990 only after the Gawkadal massacre, the Indian forces killed more than two hundred Muslims in Kupwara and Islamabad districts proving the fact that New Delhi had adopted its killing policy in early nineties.

While paying tributes to all those killed in January 1990, Freedom Party leader said that Kashmir is a land of tragedies and the Irony is that the killers involved in massacres like Gawkadal have been promoted instead. The party appealed the international human rights organizations to probe all the massacres of Kashmir.
