Jammu: Former Chief Minister and the leader of the Opposition Omar Abdullah on Friday lashed out at the government for refusing compensation to Farooq Ahmad Dar, who was used a human shield by the Army.
Omar said that ‘when the government has failed to provide compensation to Dar, a voter, how would take take the FIR against the Army in the Shopian killings to it’s logical conclusion’.

“Farooq Ahmad of Beerwah was a voter but was tied to Amy jeep because he was seen in the area where youth were pelting forces with stones. Army major was felicitated but your voter was denied compensation,” Abdullah told Mehbooba Mufti in the House.
Omar added that Farooq should have been a stone pelter, ‘at least he would have been owned by the separatists.’
“But he is caught in the middle now,” Abdullah said, as he questioned the government how it will build confidence in people to participate in Panchayat polls.

He questioned the government that how are they going to act against the army when they were not able to provide justice to Dar.
“Where from did you get this confidence that you will take FIR against the army to its logical end when you couldn’t provide justice to a human shield victim.’
Dar was tied to a bonnet of an armoured vehicle by Major Leetul Gogoi in April 2017 on the day of the Parliamentary polls. He was paraded through at least twelve villages. Following furore over the act which was described as ‘dastradly’, the Army had convened a court of inquiry (CoI) on April 15, two days after an FIR was filed by J&K Police into the incident, involving Major Leetul Gogoi from 53 Rashtriya Rifles (RR).
