Jammu: Six Kashmiris who were arrested by the Border Security Force in Rajasthan have been released when they entered a prohibited area of Mohangarh in Jaisalmer.

This was informed in Legislative Assembly of JK by Minister of Revenue Abdul Rehman Veeri.

The minister informed the House that six persons namely Ehsaan Ahmad Mir, Athar Majeed Shah, Zaffar Qureshi, Sayeem Wani, Ghulam Mohammed (Driver) and Shameem Awan, all residents of Bandipora were in the custody of Rajasthan Police.

All of them belong to the Bandipora area of Kashmir Valley.

Veeri was responding to a point raised by MLA Usman Majeed in the House in this regard.

He said as per the information provided by Rajasthan Police these persons were stopped by BSF as they were moving in prohibited area and were handed over to concerned police station.

“When police questioned them, they told the police that they started their journey from Amritsar and were using GPS for shortest possible route to Jaisalmer. They reached IGNP canal area by mistake (prohibited area). JIC of Jaisalmer questioned them,” Veeri quoted Rajasthan Police as saying.

According to a report by the Times of India, nothing suspicious was recovered from them.

“Their driving licence and PAN card were recovered. They said they entered Bikaner from Delhi and on the way to Jaisalmer came to Mohangarh via Nachna using GPS. They were not aware of the area being prohibited. They are being interrogated and on Sunday security and intel agencies will jointly interrogate them, the police had told Times of India.

Veeri informed that all were released on Sunday evening as per Rajasthan police and further details are awaited.
