‘KCCI, JCCI will jointly appeal Hurriyat not to call for strikes for the welfare of the state’
‘We appeal all mainstream parties to rise about politics and work for peace’
Jammu: The Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industries (JCCI) on Tuesday appealed to the government that the Panchayat Polls should be deferred as it will clash with the onset of the tourist season.
The Chamber also urged all the mainstream parties to rise above politics and restore peace in the state.
While addressing a press conference, Rakesh Gupta, President of the Jammu Chamber added that post demonetization and GST implementation, political parties should try to restore peace for the stability of the economy.
“We appeal to the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to delay the holding of Panchayat polls at this crucial juncture for the trade and industry at the onset of tourism season,” he said adding that the tourism industry being the back bone of the economy of the state has suffered continuously because of the ‘law and order problems’ in the state.

He said that any decision regarding holding any type of elections would have a cascading effect and badly affect the inbound tourism.
“We advise the government to hold such elections only after the month of August. As per feed back where the hotels have got 15% to 20% bookings and we expect it to be 100% this year. It is the duty of one and all to keep the state incident free to make this a reality to save the tourism and transport industry and the common interests of people at large,” he said.

The Jammu Chamber has decided to launch a movement ‘The Way Forward’ wherein the Chamber shall call upon the leaderships of all the political parties and seek their cooperation to maintain peace and welcome the guests from other parts of India and abroad for leisure, adventure, sports, holidays and pilgrimage.
“The Jammu chamber is in talks with the KCCI and may soon jointly call upon the Hurriyat leadership to appeal to them to cooperate in this matter and not to call ‘Bandhs’ (strikes) which would be practically a genuine and realistic gesture for the welfare of the people of the state,” he said, adding that JCCI is holds the string view that bridging gaps between the three regions Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh was the need of the hour and both the chambers shall leave no stone unturned to make strong bonding between the three regions a reality.
The JCCI also advised media to show case the best and positive in JK state and report positively and not to indulge in selective reporting which exhibit stray incidents of law and order problems, which happen everywhere in the world.
