The Danish government is set to become the next European country to introduce a ban on Burkha and Niqab, the full-face veil used by some Muslim women, in public places.

The government says that it will fine women for wearing the Niqab and Burkha in public places.

Under the proposals anyone found covering their face would be fined 1,000 kroner (£120), or up to 10,000 kroner (£1,200) if they are repeatedly caught.

In a report by Danish newspaper, The Local Denmark, Justice Minister Søren Pape Poulsen was quoted as saying, “It (full face veil) is incompatible with the values in Danish society and disrespectful to the community to keep one’s face hidden when meeting each other in public spaces,”.

“With a ban on covering the face, we are drawing a line in the sand and underlining that in Denmark we show each other trust and respect by meeting face to face,” he added.
