Army reacts to Owaisi’s comments: ‘Don’t communalise martyrs’

New Delhi: The Indian Army has said that people should not ‘communalise martyrs’ and those making such statements don’t know the Army well.

The Northern Command chief General Devraj Anbu was responding to Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi after he questioned the ‘silence over the killing of Muslim Army men in Jammu attack’.

“Don’t communalise martyrs,” said General Anbu.

He added, “Those making communal statements over the death of soldiers obviously did not know the army very well.”

Owaisi had said, “Those who call Indian Muslims Pakistani should learn something from this. We (Muslims) are sacrificing our lives (for the country).”

Four of the six Army men, Mohammad Ashraf Mir, Habibullah Qureshi, Manzoor Ahmed Deva and Mohammad Iqbal Sheikh, killed in the attack were identified as Kashmiri Muslims.

One civilian, Ghulam Mohiuddin Sheikh, the father of one of the slain Army men, was also among the killed.

On February 10, A group of heavily armed Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) militants entered the Sunjuwan army camp  hurling grenades and using automatic gunfire. Three attackers, who managed to enter the Junior Commissioned Officer’s residential quarters, were killed in the operation by the forces.
