Trudeau’s India visit: India might discuss ‘Pro-Khalistan radicalism’ in Canada, MEA indicates

Srinagar: Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau who will be in India for seven days has said that he will focus on job creation and strengthening ties between the two countries.


However, rights group Amnesty International has asked Trudeau to raise issues including threatened expulsion of the persecuted Rohingyas from the country, use of pellet guns in Jammu and Kashmir and justice to the victims of the 1984 Sikh riots.

Amnesty has also asked the Canadian PM to press on the Indian Government for decriminalization of consensual gay sex.

Moreover, India might take up the issue of growing ‘Sikh radicalism’ in Canada with Trudeau. The issue has already been discussed among the National Security Advisers of both countries.

Also, In response to a question on whether India will take up the issue of rising pro-Khalistan radicalism in Canada during Trudeau’s visit, external affairs ministry indicated that it may be raised.
