‘Mentally unstable’ man shot dead by forces after he entered ‘security area’ of Air Force Station: Police

Srinagar: A ‘mentally challenged’ person was shot dead after he entered a ‘security area’ of the Air Force station in Budgam area.

The incident took place around midnight.

According to the police, despite repeated warnings from the sentry, he kept closing in.

“He crossed the security fence and came close to the station perimeter wall. Despite repeated warning from the sentry the individual did not stop. The sentry fired some warning shots in air but the individual did not stop. The sentry fired towards him,” the police said.

After examining the spot, the police claimed that the deceased, around 55 years of age, appeared to be mentally unstable as he was not wearing shoes, had no proper winter clothing and no identity card on him.

The police has registered a case.
