Recent transgressions of Chinese army has underscored the vulnerability of Silliguri corridor, says Naval Chief

New Delhi: The Chief of the Naval Staff Sunil Lanba on Wednesday said that the recent transgressions of the Chinese army along the Line of Actual Control and the Doklam stand off have underscored the ‘vulnerability’ of the Silliguri corridor, reported the ANI.

The Siliguri corridor is a stretch of land which connects the north-eastern states of India with the mainland and is bounded by Bhutan in the north east, Bangladesh in south and Nepal in east.

“Frequent instance of transgression by PLA across LAC & recent standoff at Doklam are indication of increasing assertiveness of China, as it makes rapid progress economically & militarily. Recent developments have also underscored vulnerability of Siliguri Corridor,” said Lanba.

Recently China said that they would lodge a diplomatic protest with India over the visit of Narendra Modi to the ‘disputed’ area of Arunachal Pradesh.

While voicing their ‘firm opposition’, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said that they have never recognized this ‘so called’ Arunachal Pradesh and oppose Modi’s visit.
