Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front’s UK diplomat, Prof Liaqat Ali Khan passes away

He struggled for Kashmir for the last four decades: Malik

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Liberation front (JKLF) senior leader, Prof Liaqat Ali Khan from Kotli, AJK residing in Watford, United Kingdom passed away after minor illness in a local hospital in Watford yesterday.

In a statement, the JKLF spokesman said that as soon as the news about his death spread, the front leaders and members in and outside the state of Jammu Kashmir got saddened.

In this connection, a condolence meeting was hurriedly organized at Maqbool Manzil, the front headquarters in Srinagar, Kashmir under the chairmanship of president Muhammad Yasin Malik.

All other senior leaders and many members participated in the condolence meeting, the spokesperson said. While paying tributes to the deceased front leader, Malik said that “the gap left with the death of Prof. Liaqat can’t be fulfilled as the front has today lost a dedicated and a true nationalist leader who represented Kashmir’s liberation struggle in his best capacity at the Diplomatic level for the last four decades.”

He said that Prof Liaqat besides many other portfolios has held the post of Zonal Gen. Sec. and served the cause and the front to his best.

Terming his death as ‘his personal loss’, Malik also prayed for his elder brother Showkat Ali Khan, who breathed his last on Monday this week in Kotli, AJK.

Malik said that the whole family of Prof Liaqat is working for Kashmir’s freedom for which they will be remembered for long.

While extending condolences to party leaders in UK and his family, Malik and the participants prayed for Jannah for the deceased souls.

“Prof Liaqat left behind his widow, a son and two daughters. The nimaz-e-jinaza of Professor Liaqat Ali Khan was offered this afternoon in a local mosque in North Watford, UK. Besides a large number of Kashmiri community and leaders of many other parties, the Jinaza and funeral was attended Zonal President Sabir Gul along with all JKLF leaders in UK,” the statement added.
