Chittisinghpura Massacre: Even after 18 years, justice eludes those whose near ones were killed, says Mirwaiz

Srinagar:  Hurriyat (M) on Tuesday said that it  is as an eye opener for the world human rights bodies that even after the passage of 18 long years of the Chattisinghpora massacre, the justice eludes the 35 Sikh families whose dear ones were killed in that incident.

The APHC while expressing solidarity and sympathy with the families stated that like other dozens of massacres committed by the government forces, the Government of India and also the State dispensation continues to adopt a criminal silence even as guilty are roaming free.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Chairman of the Hurriyat (M), in a tweet reiterated the same.

Hurriyat said probes announced in Chattisinghpora, Pathribal fake encounter have always been used as a weapon to calm the tempers of people and to buy time, adding, that not a single probe ordered by the successive regimes so far has been taken to conclusion let alone punishing the guilty.

The Hurriyat said that in the past three decades, Kashmir has witnessed brutal massacres that include Zakoora, Hawal, Gaw Kadal, Sopore, Bijbehara, Kupwara, Handwara, Shopian and many others where in forces fired indiscriminately at innocent people turning the streets of Kashmir red everywhere.

“In all these massacres, what people of Kashmir got from the ruling regimes is announcement of probes which actually was a mere eye-wash. The fact remains that justice continues to remain a distant dream for their families,” read a statement of the amalgam.
