Srinagar: In the ongoing gun fight in Halmatpora area of Kupwara district, the death toll has increased to nine after five militants and four personnel were killed.
A police official told Greater Kashmir that two Special Operations Group (SOG) personnel and as many army men were killed in the exchange of fire with the militants hiding in Check Fateh Khan forests.
Two militants were also killed in the gun fight raging since yesterday afternoon, taking the total number of militants killed in the gunfight to five.
Deepak Pandit and Mohd Yusuf are the two identified SOG men killed in the gun fight. Also, one Mohammad Ashraf of the Territorial army is among the slain too.
Intense firing is on between forces and the militants for past over an hour, said the official. According to the forces, six militants were engaging the forces in the gun fight.
“The last militant is still responding to the forces intermittently as it appears the gunfight has entered into the last stage,” the official told Greater Kashmir.
