Shopian gunfights aftermath: Mehbooba expresses grief over civilian deaths, pays tributes to slain Army men

New Delhi: Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has expressed grief over the death of two civilians who were killed during the clashes near the gun fight sites in Shopian.

She has also sympathised with those injured during these operations.

The Chief Minister has also paid tributes to the three Army men who were killed during these operations. She has conveyed her sympathies with the bereaved families and prayed for peace to the departed souls.

Eleven militants were killed in the twin operations at Dragad and Kachdor. Seven militants were killed in Dragad, and three killed in Kachdor where the forces blasted the house to kill the remaining militants when reports last came.

One militant Rouf Bashir Khanday was killed and his associate Imran Rashid was arrested during an overnight gunfight at Brunty Dialgam in Anantnag district.

Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) of Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and Yasin Malik on Sunday called for a Kashmir-wide shutdown. The Shutdown call is for Sunday and Monday.

Police sources in Srinagar and Shopian have identified the killed militants as Yawar Itoo, a resident Safnagri Zainpora, Nazim Nazir of Nagbal, Adil Thokar of Homhona, Ubair Shafi Malla, a resident of Trenz, Rais Thokar of Paderpora, Ishafaq Malik of Pinjoora and Zubair Turay of Shopian town.

In clashes which erupted near the gun fight sites, over a 100 civilians have been injured and two identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Padroo and Zubair Ahmad Bhat were killed.
