Five militants killed in Kachdoora gun fight identified, say Police

Srinagar: Police on Monday, in a statement identified the five militants killed in the Kachdoora gunfight in Shopian.

According to the police the killed militants have been identified as Ishfaq Thokar resident of Paddarpora Shopian, Aitmad Hussain Dar resident of Amshipora Shopian, Aqib Bashir resident of DH Pora Kulgam, Sameer Lone of Hillow Shopian and Gayas ul Islam Thoker of Paderpora.

Meanwhile, the valley was paralysed in the aftermath of killing of 13 militants and three civilians in three different gun fights in Shopian. Three armed personnel were also killed during the gunfights. In the clashes which erupted afterwards, 200 odd people were injured.

The authorities apprehending large scale protests have put restrictions at numerous places across Kashmir. Internet services continue to remain suspended on second straight day.

Commercial establishments and offices are also closed, while government ordered closure of all educational institutions on Monday.

Joint Resistance Leadership has called for shutdown in the Valley for two days.

All examinations scheduled on Monday were also postponed by all three universities including Kashmir University, Islamic University and Central University. Public transport was off the roads. In Srinagar government enforced restrictions particularly in downtown areas.

A vital road link leading to Kashmir’s tertiary care hospital SKIMS was kept open and scattered private vehicles were plying on it.

In the wee hours of Monday, the chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Mohammad Yasin Malik was detained by the police in order to prevent him from leading any protests. He was lodged in Kothi Bagh Police Station.
