Shopian killings aftermath: Innocents being shot down to clamp voice of self determination, independence, says Afridi

Srinagar: In the aftermath of the Shopian killings, Pakistan cricket star Shahid Afridi on Tuesday said that the situation in Kashmir is ‘appalling and worrisome’.

In a tweet, Afridi, who has a huge fan following in South Asia, questioned the United Nations and other international bodies asking why they were not taking any steps to stop the bloodshed in Kashmir.

On Monday, Prime Minister of Pakistan Shahid Khaqan Abbasi had said that ‘brutal crackdown’ on civilians protesting against the killings in Shopian was deplorable.

The Pakistan premier also lamented the government for ‘stifling voices’ of the valley by shutting down the internet.

On Sunday, twenty people, including 13 militants, four civilians and three armed forces were killed in three different gun fights in Shopian and Anantnag districts. In the clashes that took place arcross the valley, around 200 people were injured. More than 40 people have sustained pellet injuries and might lose their eyesight.
