Shopian killings aftermath: Cops bar Geelani from leaving his residence to march towards Shopian

Srinagar: Syed Ali Geelani, Hurriyat (G) chairman was on Wednesday was not allowed to come out from his residence as the Joint Resistance Leadership had called for a March towards Shopian.

The JRL had decided to offer condolences to the bereaved families whose kin were killed during the Shopian gun fights on Sunday.

A spokesman of Hurriyat(G) said that the policemen deployed outside Geelani’s residence in Hyderpora barred him to move out.

Earlier, Chairman of Hurriyat (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq tried to defy his house arrest in a bid to move towards Shopian however, he was detained and lodged in the Nigeen Police Station.

Earlier the Police had said that the Resistance leaders are free to carry on with their political activities however they should not indulge in any ‘anti-national’ activity.
