Militant killed in Pulwama, another associated with Lashkar arrested in Kupwara, says Police

Srinagar: A militant was killed in a gun fight in Kangan area of Pulwama in south Kashmir on Friday, said the police. The police also claimed that they have arrested a foreign militant in the Hyhama area of Kupwara district.

A statement of the police said that two AK-47 assault rifles were recovered from the slain militant in Pulwama. A local said that atmosphere reverberated with gun shots after government forces cordoned off Kangan area.

“There was an exchange of fire in which a militant was killed. Two assault rifles were recovered from the spot,” said a police official. The identity of the militant is yet to be ascertained, police said.

Clashes also erupted in the area soon after the news broke that militants were trapped.

A hand out issued by police said that: “On a patrol of Security Forces some firing took place at Kangan, Pulwama in which acting swiftly SFs killed one militant and recovered one AK 47s and one SLR gun and other incriminating material.”

“Identity and outfit of the killed militant is yet to be ascertained. The Operation was concluded. No collateral damage has taken place in this episode.”

“A case in this regard has been registered, and investigations taken up.”

Meanwhile, police said that a militant associated with the Lashkar-e-Toiba identified as Zabiullah was arrested in Hyhama area of Kupwara district.

The police, in a statement said that the arrested militant is a resident of Multan, Pakistan.

“Perusing credible leads of presence of terrorists, Kupwara police along with 41 RR, 98 Bn CRPF launched a CASO in Juggiyal, Turshan Mohalla, Hyhama area of the district. While the searches were intensified, security forces zeroed on one house where one terrorist was hiding. The joint forces strategically trapped the terrorist and arrested him from the spot, ” police said in a statement.

“He was identified as Zabiullah S/O Sannaullah Saqib R/o Multan Pakistan affiliated with outlawed terror organisation LeT. He had recently infiltrated and was part of the group who were eliminated at Halmatpora recently,” the statement further added.
