Kulgam gunfight over, say authorities, search on in the area

Srinagar: The gun fight in Kulgam where in clashes, three civilians were killed, has ended, said that authorities.

An official said that the firing has stopped, but searches are on in the area.

Reports said that JCBs were being used to clear the debris of the house in which at least two militants were believed to be trapped. To fight the trapped militants, the army had used helicopter gun ships. 

Three civilians have been killed in clashes which erupted near the gun fight site in Kulgam. More than 50 people have been injured. An Army man has also been killed during the gun fight.

The civilian deaths occur just two days after Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti met the Prime Minister and Defence Minister of India. In her meeting with Narendra Modi, she had appealed for finding ways to end the bloodshed and alienation in the valley.

During her meeting with Nirmala Sitharaman, Mehbooba had called for a ‘humane approach and avoiding collateral damage during security operations’.
