‘Civilians thronging gunfight sites are responsible for their own deaths’

While replying to question from twitter users, from the official Jammu and Kashmir police twitter handle, the Police chief, SP Vaid on Thursday said that gun is not the solution, and that every party including Pakistan should sit together find a solution.

When asked about the suggestions he has on resolving Kashmir conflict, “I wish Kashmir problem was so simple that I could answer in one reply. So many brains have been working for decades to find a solution. Not so simplistic problem. I personally feel the gun is not the solution, every party including even our neighbour should sit together and talk it out. Violence is not the solution,” DGP replied.

When asked about the killings of civilians, “(They) have no business to be at encounter sites,” said.

“No marriage of a militant is happening there and the bullet has a trajectory. It will hit and will not distinguish between a boy, stone pelter, forces… have time and again asked people to stay away from the encounter sites,” DGP said.

On Kathua rape and murder case and demand for CBI probe DGP Vaid said that police have no problem with CBI handling case but Jammu and Kashmir police is as competent as CBI. “If we can fight terrorists and stone pelters why can’t police do its profesional job of investigation, our officers even go on deputation to CBI. The tainted officer you are talking about was acquitted by the court.”

The DGP said that the most challenging task has been in 2016 after the killing of former Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani.

“Post Burhan situation was the most challenging task. When the charge was given as special DG law and order,” he said.

On presence Islamic State (IS) DGP Vaid said: “my only wish is that they don’t come here.”
