Kathua rape and murder case: We are ready for a Narco Test, says lawyer of the accused

The accused in the Kathua rape and murder case were produced in front of the chief judicial magistrate on Monday and pleaded that they are not guilty. The next date of the hearing has been set on April 28.

Their lawyer Ankur Sharma said that they are ready for a Narco Test.

“Court directed that chargesheet copies should be provided to all accused, we are ready for narco tests. Next date of hearing is April 28,” Ankur Sharma, counsel for the accused, told ANI. While leaving the district court, one of the eight accused said: “Everything will be clear after Narco test.”

Sharma also claimed that despite the ‘media hype’, the court proceedings will be short. He added that the prosecution has to explain why they filed an incomplete challan. On the victim’s lawyer Deepika Singh Rajawat, he claimed she doesn’t represent the victim’s family in this case as the State leads the prosecution.

‘It is a falsehood that is being pedalled. The lady is not a lawyer. the state leads the prosecution. She has not been appointed as special VP,’ he said. When asked about the purported threat to her life, he said, ‘as far as I understand no threats have been made to the lawyer.’

Rajawat said she fears for her safety and has been labelled as ‘anti-Hindu’. She also said that she might get killed or raped.

Moreover, the victims’s father has moved a plea in the Supreme Court asking for the transfer of the case to Chandigarh.

On Sunday the chief minister Mehbooba Mufti accepted the resignation of two cabinet ministers Chander Prakash Ganga and Chowdhary Lal Singh, who had rallied in support of the accused in the case.

Earlier, the BJP had said that both the ministers were ‘misled and misguided by a few people.’
