Student protests were witnessed in various districts across the valley against the brutal rape and murder of an eight-year old girl in Kathua.
The students of degree college Ganderbal boycotted their classes and staged a protest against the Kathua rape-and-murder. The students assembled in the premises of the college and held protests, demanding death to the culprits involved in Kathua case.
Chanting slogans to demand hanging of the culprits of Kathua rape-and-murder, the students came out of the college premises and staged a sit-in on Ganderbal-Shalbigh Road.
Later, police reached at the spot and chased away the protesting students to clear the road for traffic movement.
Massive clashes were reported from Tral after the students of Degree college protested against the horrific gang rape. Reports said that the students staged a protest outside the college campus. However, forces deployed in the area used force to break up the protest, triggering clashes.
At the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), two cops were injured after students and forces clashed during protests against the Kathua incident. Reports said that police swung into action after the students of the varsity staged protests on the Srinagar-Jammu highway at Awantipora, triggering clashes.
The students pelted heavy stones on the police, leaving SDPO and SHO Awantipora injured.
With the placards “Justice for Asifa and Asiya Nelofar” in their hands, the students of Shopian district held a peaceful protest in against the rape and murder case of the minor girl in Kathua. Students shouting Azaadi slogans marched from Batpora area to the streets of Shopian district.
Adnan, a 20 year old student of boys higher secondary shopian said, “Everyday in one or other way people in Kashmir are facing oppression of the state, why don’t killings and oppression stop.”.
Another girl student of who wished to be anonymous said, “Untill justice won’t be provided to Asifa’s family, we won’t stop protesting.”
