Cops refute reports of assault on JK Liberation Front Chief Malik

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday refuted the report that JKLF Chief Mohammad Yasin Malik was assaulted while on his way to the Jamia Masjid.

A JKLF spokesman said that police stopped the vehicle of Malik near Gousia hospital Khanyar.

Quoting eye witnesses, he said that police abused Malik and assaulted him. “JKLF chairman objected to his misbehavior and asked him (police officer) to show some restraint but there was no stopping to his hooliganism,” he said.

However, police in a statement said that Malik and his accomplice were requested to produce the papers of the car in which they were travelling. Instead, of that, they created ‘obstruction’.

“Facts pertaining to the situation are that a team from police station Khanyar was on a routine Naka duty when at around 12:10 PM today afternoon a Sedan Car Honda CRV bearing registration No DL3C AK 2197 was intercepted by the naka party. The travelers inside the car were requested to produce the registration papers of the said car,” the statement said.

“However the travelers inboard which included JKLF Chief Yasin Malik and Bashir Kashmiri instead of producing papers created obstruction in the lawful duty,” the statement added.

However, a video shared by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on twitter shows that Malik was manhandled by the cops.
