Shopian Gunfight aftermath: Yet another youth killed

In the clashes, that erupted near the gunfight site in Shopian, another civilian identified as Sajad Ahmad Rather has been killed. Reports said that Rather had sustained a bullet injury in the head and was declared brought dead at the District Hospital of Shopian.

Earlier, a 17-year old boy, identified as Asif Ahmad Mir who was critically injured during clashes, succumbed to his injuries at the SMHS Hospital in Srinagar. With the death of Rather, the civilian death toll has risen to two.

Five militants including top Hizb commander Sadam Padder and Kashmir University assistant professor Dr Mohammad Rafi Bhat were killed in a gun fight that broke out early Sunday morning in Badigam village after the joint team of Army, SOG and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in the area.

Over a dozen protesters have been injured during clashes near the encounter site.

Reacting over the killing of the professor, former chief minister Omar Abdullah said that his death is the answer to those  who say that jobs is the solution to violence and alienation in Kashmir.
