Ahead of Friday prayers, Mirwaiz placed under house arrest

Ahead of his address at the historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar, the authorities have placed Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest.

Reports said that a police party reached at his Nigeen residence and put him under detention. An official said that the leader has been put under house arrest to prevent him from leading protests after the Friday prayers.

Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik has called for peaceful protests after prayers against the recent civilian killings.

On Thursday, Mirwaiz lashed out at the Indian Army Chief who had said that Kashmiri youth need to know that Azadi is not possible. 

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, had said that even the British who colonized India for more than 100 years never conceded that Indians will get freedom.
