To commemorate the death anniversaries of late Mirwaiz Maulana Muhammad Farooq and Abdul Gani Lone, the Resistance leaders had called for a march to Eidgah ground however authorities have placed restrictions in parts of the city to prevent such a march.
Forces have been deployed with riot gear and all the exams of the day have been postponed. Restrictions have been imposed in Nowhatta, Khanyar, Rainawari, M.R.Gunj and Safa Kadal in the old city, while partial restrictions are in place in Maisuma and Kralkhud in the uptown areas.
Mirwaiz Farooq, father of the current Mirwaiz and chairman of Hurriyat (M) Omar Farooq, was killed on May 21, 1990 while Lone was killed on May 21, 2002 by unknown gunmen. Mirwaiz Omar and Syed Ali Geelani have been placed under house arrest while JKLF chief Mohammad Yasin Malik ha sbeen taken into custody by the police.
