A security guard with Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) leader has allegedly fled with his service rifle at Baramulla district of north Kashmir on Wednesday.
SPO Waseem Ahmad Malla of Shutloo village in Rafiabad, posted at the guard room of the BJP leader Mohammad Maqbool War at Rohama Rafiabad has been missing since morning along with his service rifle.
Besides, the service rifle Malla has also taken away some ammunition allotted to him, they said.
They said that it was not immediately known whether he has joined militant ranks but they did not also rule out such possibility.
SSP Sopore Javid Iqbal confirmed that the SPO has gone missing along with the service rifle.
He said that a police team has been sent to the spot to verify the details and try to find out the missing SPO.
A number of policemen and some soldiers have deserted the force and have joined militant ranks in the past.
