Trial of Kathua rape and murder case begins amid tight security at Pathankot

‘JK Govt directed to provide translated copies of charge sheets to the counsels of the accused’

Over 30 lawyers have been engaged by the accused for defending their cases

Srinagar: The trial of the Kathua rape and murder case commenced in the court of District and session judge Pathankote amid tight security. Though the arguments on the charge sheet filed against the accused started today but the counsels of the accused sought directions from the court to the Jammu and Kashmir government for the translated copies of the charge sheets.

The Advocate General Jammu and Kashmir High Court Jehangir Iqbal Ganaie said, “court has directed us to provide the translated copies of the charge sheets by Monday and we will provide them the translated copies”.

It has been learned that over 30 lawyers have been engaged by the accused for defending their cases and many of them belonging to Pathankote sought translated copies of the charge sheets and court directed the J&K government to provide translated copies of the charge sheets to the lawyers of the accused by Monday.

The case will come up for hearing again tomorrow as per the directives of the Supreme Court of India. On behalf of the J&K government Shanti Singh special public prosecutor, Bhupinder Singh, Chief Prosecuting officer and Harminder Singh Chief Prosecuting officer appeared before the court.
