US President Donald Trump has declared that North Korea is ‘still an unusual and extraordinary threat’ in a notice contained in the Congress on Friday, citing to maintain economic restrictions on North Korea. This came despite the President’s claim that the historic summit had ended the nuclear weapons threat by the country, reported The Washington Post.
The notice will stay the restrictions for one year and will keep the restrictions earlier ordered by former President George W. Bush.
“The existence and risk of proliferation of weapons-usable fissile material on the Korean Peninsula and the actions and policies of the Government of North Korea continue to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security, foreign policy, and economy of the United States,” Trump wrote on Friday.
Trump had earlier tweeted this after the summit:
Just landed – a long trip, but everybody can now feel much safer than the day I took office. There is no longer a Nuclear Threat from North Korea. Meeting with Kim Jong Un was an interesting and very positive experience. North Korea has great potential for the future!

The notice came after US and South Korea cancelled a major joint military exercise that had been earlier planned for August.
“The report of President Trump’s own administration completely undercuts his statements over the last few weeks,” said the Senate’s top Democrat, Chuck Schumer.
Earlier, during the historic meet in Singapore, the two leaders had signed a statement committing to full ‘denuclearization’ of the Korean Peninsula while the US had decided to give ‘security guarantees’.
