Shootout in Kupwara: Body of a militant recovered, search operation on, says Army

The Army has said that a body of a militant was recovered during a search operation which was launched after a standoff between the militants and the army in the forests of Kachama in Kupwara district on Friday.

News agency GNS, while quoting a senior army officer said that  body of a militant was recovered by the search party this morning along with an AK-rifle at Tunga Top- the upper belt of Kachama forests.

The officer said that the search operation in the area is still going on to trace out the other members of the group. PRO Defence said the gunfight near Trehgam ended at 5:30 am with the killing of a militant. “The operation is over,” he said.

Earlier, sources had said that the group of militants and army’s 10 JAK search party had a stand-off late last night at Tunga Top forests.

The exchange of fire continued intermittently till pre-dawn hours today, they said.
