Cloudburst in Tral damages crops, house after embankment gives way

One residential house got partially damaged while the embankment of Chandriyad Nallah got damaged in Naristan area of Tral in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district due to the cloud burst on late Tuesday evening.

Syed Aijaz, locals said that embankment of streams and the crops got damaged in the area due to the cloudburst on late evening on Tuesday.

The locals added that following the cloud burst, the electricity as well as the drinking water supply got also affected.

They demanded that the either sides of the embankment of Chandriyad Nallah should be repaired at an earliest so that people won’t suffer.

Meanwhile, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Tral, Riyaz Ahmad Malik accompanied by the officers from different departments visited the area and assessed the situation there.

The ADC restored the electricity and drinking water supply on spot and also directed the officials from concerned department to fulfill the demands of people at an earliest.

Despite incessant rains which even posed a threat of flash floods in the valley, the yatra to the cave shrine commenced as per scheduled on June 28 after several hours of delay but faced frequent disruptions owing to continuous rainfall, slippery condition of the tracks and landslides.

The 60-day yatra is scheduled to conclude on August 26 coinciding with the ‘Raksha Bandhan’ festival.
