Srinagar: On Thursday, Home Minister of India, Rajnath Singh, while discussing about Kashmir, said that stability and peace could only be brought to the state through an ‘honest, effective and efficient administration’.

At a high-level meeting, attended by Governor N N Vohra, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and top civil and police officials where he reviewed the security situation in the valley , he said, “The dream of a developed and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir will be realised when there is peace and normalcy in the state. It is our firm resolve to bring peace, stability and prosperity through an honest, effective and efficient administration for the problems facing the state.”

He said that the valley had been bereft of good governance and that ‘the central government was committed to taking all possible measures to bring accountability and transparency in the system’.

“With a renewed focus on good governance and development, the Centre is looking forward to kindle new aspirations and hopes amongst the people of the state,” he stated.

Rajnath Singh said that empowerment of the people and strengthening local-government institutions was the solution to such a problem.

Earlier, on two-day visit to Kashmir along with National Security Adviser (NSA) of India, Ajit Doval, he ‘discussed various issues including security management, implementation of development programmes and positive engagement of the youth in the state’ with Governor N.N Vohra on Wednesday night at Raj Bhawan, AIR reported.

The meeting was held in the presence of NSA Ajit Doval, Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba and top officials from Army, Police, armed forces and intelligence agencies.

Rajnath Singh and Ajit Doval had arrived earlier on a two-day visit to the valley to find “a permanent solution” to the Kashmir problem and to “speak to anyone”. Soon after the duo landed in Kashmir, they were informed about the ongoing ‘security status’ along with cross-border and LoC situation and preparedness of the forces.

Singh had claimed that he had personally asked the former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to ignore cases against ‘first-time stone pelters.’

“Kashmir is, was and will be ours always. We want a permanent solution to the Kashmir problem and we are open to speak to anyone,” a report in News18 quoted Singh as saying. “Government interlocutor Dineshwar Sharma was accommodating and moving forward in the direction to resolving issues.” .
