If Delhi is behind the revolt in PDP camp, then it’s a serious matter: Mehbooba Mufti

Srinagar: As one after another Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) MLAs are throwing their weight behind the creation of the Third Front in Jammu and Kashmir to end ‘dynastic politics’, the party chief and the former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti has termed the growing party revolt as a mere sign of ‘grievance’.

In an interview with India TV’s Rajat Sharma, Mufti said much of the party disgruntlement stems from the fact that some of these MLAs didn’t get choicest portfolios and departments.

“This is a normal grieving reaction, but if there’s Delhi’s hand behind this revolt, then it’s a serious matter,” Mufti said, adding that ups and downs are part and parcel of every party.

On question of new chief minister in the Jammu and Kashmir, Mufti said the candidate must not come at the cost of breaking the party.

“I remember it was 2001 when Atal Bihari Vajayee pledged to hold fair elections in Jammu and Kashmir. It was because of that trust that PDP-Congress government could be formed and people started trusting Indian democracy in Kashmir. If today Delhi would intervene to break PDP and install its own CM candidate, be it Sajjad Lone or anyone else, then it would be a setback to democratic process, which is the only link between India and Kashmir.”

Notably, the reports from Delhi earlier said that BJP wants to install either Sajjad Lone or a Hindu face as its new CM in J&K, with the help of disgruntled PDP MLAs.

Meanwhile, ruling out the reports of stitching an alliance with Congress, Mufti said her party has no such plan.
