Curfew imposed in Trehgam after civilian killed, authorities call it ‘precautionary measure’

Srinagar: Curfew was imposed in Trehgam in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district day after a civilian was killed in army firing. Authorities said the curfew was imposed ‘as a precautionary measure’ to maintain law and order.

Strict restrictions were in place for the rest of the district. Internet services have also been suspended in Kupwara district and various parts of Sopore tehsil.

Earlier, a youth, Khalid Gaffar Malik, was killed on Wednesday evening when army opened fire on protesters in north Kashmir’s Trehgam area.

An eye-witness told Free Press Kashmir over phone that the army opened fire when a group of youth at Zargar Mohalla in Trehgam pelted stones on an army party passing through the area.

Shot in throat, Malik was shifted to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead. He was 22 and brother of an army man.
