JK Govt orders magisterial probe into the killing of Trehgam youth

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir government Thursday ordered magisterial probe into the killing of a 22-year-old youth from north Kashmir’s Trehgam, killed in army firing on Wednesday evening.

Police have registered FIR No. 46/ 2018 against the army under sections 147, 148, 323, 306, 307, RPC at police station Trehgam in the case.

Khalid Jehangir, District Magistrate (DM) Kupwara said that an inquiry has been ordered into the incident.

Additional District Commissioner (ADM), Handwara, Muzaffar Hussain has been appointed as the inquiry officer and given the task to complete the probe within a month.

Earlier, clashes erupted in Trehgam between protesters and armed forces after the slain youth was laid to rest.

Curfew was imposed in the area as a ‘precautionary measure’, while strict restrictions were in place for the rest of the district. Internet services have also been suspended in Kupwara district and various parts of Sopore tehsil.
