PDD daily-wager dies of electric shock while repairing a wire in Sopore

Srinagar: While repairing an electric wire in Sopore’s New Colony, a Power Development Department (PDD) daily-wager died of electric shock Saturday.

Identified as Mohammad Ramzan Lone, 50, of Nowpora Wagoora, the lineman passed on way to Srinagar where he was referred for a specialized treatment.

The deceased had been working with PDD for the past 30 years.

Lone’s death triggered a protest, as his colleagues accused PDD of exposing them to a great risk.

“This is not the first time we have lost our colleagues. Our department is exposing us to a great risk,” said one PDD protester. “Despite growing death incidents, PDD isn’t taking proper measures to make our job risk free.”

Notably, scores of PDD linemen have already lost their lives in the line of their duty in the recent past in Kashmir.
