However, SSP Anantnag Altaf Ahmed Khan denied the reports. ‘We haven’t detained anyone,” Khan told Free Press Kashmir.

Early morning in Anantnag, a senior police official said two bodies of the militants have been recovered from the site of the gunfight in Mehmaan Mohalla of Anantnag town. The two militants have been identified as Adil Bhat of Sozan Kishtwar and Bin Yamin alias Bilal moulvi of Ghat Khudwani.

“Firing has stopped. Search operation is on,” said the official.

Police said that earlier, two Lashkar-e-Toiba militants were trapped in the gunfight, following which a cordon and search operation was launched. “As the forces approached the suspected spot, the hiding militants opened fire, triggering a gunfight,” he said.

Internet was shut in Anantnag district while train service was suspended across south Kashmir in view of the gunfight. An eye witness said that the forces blasted the house in which the militants were trapped.

Reportedly, a policeman was injured by clashes after youth took to the streets in Lazibal, Kadipora and Chee area of Lal Chowk despite curbs and clashes with the forces.
