‘2000 canals of land being grabbed in Hazratbal, officials hand in glove with encroachers’

Hazratbal residents accuse DC Ganderbal of not taking action, allowing encroachers to build on government land

Srinagar: The residents of Chatarhama Hazratbal, Srinagar have accused the DC Ganderbal of not taking any action against the ‘encroachments and illegal constructions on Government land’.

According to residents the land meant for grazing of cattle and sheep is being “occupied by violators with the help of some brokers and Revenue officers”.

The residents said, “about 2,000 kanals of this land is encroached with the help of brokers and revenue officials causing problems for the villagers.”

The residents also said that after they filed the complaint in the Grievance Cell of the Governor’s Secretariat, the Governor directed the DC, Ganderbal for the redressal of the issue on 7-7-2018 but till now no action has taken place.

The statement further added that the land doesn’t only stand encroached and occupied but the violators with the help of some officials also raised constructions illegally in 2014.

“The protection walls raised around the government land is dismantled and the construction material is taken inside by encroachers,” the residents said, adding, “LAWDA officials and the Rural Development also have not taken the matter into notice.”

The residents have demanded the matter to be inquired into thoroughly by the concerned authorities and strong action be taken against the violators.
