Drank a cup of poison by forging an alliance with BJP, says Mehbooba

Srinagar: Former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday said that by aligning with the Bhartiya Janata Party, she had to drink a cup of poison.

Speaking during the Foundation Day of the Peoples Democratic Party, she added that the alliance was forged only to save the people of Kashmir.

She also mentioned that during the 2016 uprising, when pellets were being fired at the youth, she felt as if they were hitting her body.

The Opposition, time and again has accused Mehbooba of compromising everything for the sake of power, however she rejected the accusations.  “I didn’t compromise for anything during my two years of tenure as Chief Minister,” she said.

She further added, “As many times I met Prime Minister Modi, I asked him to initiate dialogue with Pakistan and Hurriyat leaders.”

She also urged Narendra Modi to respond to Imran Khan’s offer of dialogue regarding Kashmir.

“Pakistan is getting a new government, a new prime minister. He has made an offer of friendship. I want to appeal PM Modi to respond to the offer positively,” said Mehbooba at the PDP raising day function in Srinagar.

Mehbooba said that Article 345-A is a challenge for all political parties. She appealed to all the parties to set aside differences and fight together to defend the Article.

“All the parties should set aside differences and defend the article the way we did during past two years,” she said.
