All who died for Kashmir cause are ‘Martyrs’, says National Conference leader

National conference leader Bashir Ahmed Veeri on Monday said that all those who are fighting for the Kashmir cause are ‘Shaheed’ (Martyrs), reported the ANI.

“We have been saying this since 1953 when the democratically elected Prime Minister (Sheikh Abdullah) was arrested. Shouldn’t we call the people who died in Kashmir since 1953 as ‘Shaheed’? Who will you call ‘Shaheed’ then? Are they fighting for their personal interests? There is some reason because of which people are shedding hot blood here. All are ‘shaheed’ who have been fighting here over Kashmir issue. Nobody is committing any crime,” Verri told ANI.

Meanwhile, The Supreme Court has adjourned the hearing of the petitions filed against the Article 35-A which gives special rights to the state subjects of Jamu and Kashmir. A complete shutdown is being observed in the valley since August 5 against the petitions filed against Article 35-A in the Supreme Court.

The three-bench judge headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra declined the Jammu and Kashmir government’s request for deferment of the case until December this year, reports said.

The hearing was today adjourned because of the absence of the third judge of the bench. The case has been listed for next hearing on August 27, reports said.

Four petitions demanding scrapping of the provision have been moved before the Supreme Court. The main petition was filed by a Delhi-based NGO “We the Citizens”. Later, three petitions filed by West Pakistan Refugees Action Committee, Dr Charu Wali Khanna, and Kali Dass were clubbed together.
