Article 35-A row: Protests held in Tral, Tangdhar; Complete shutdown in Poonch, Rajouri

Protests against the abrogation of the Article 35-A are being held across the valley while a complete shutdown is being observed across Kashmir.

Protests were held on Thursday in Tangdhar and Tral areas of Kashmir districts of Kupwara and Pulwama respectively to support Article 35-A which has been challenged in the Supreme Court.

In Tral, members of the Sikh community also staged a protest against attempts to scrap the State Subject Law. Moreover, people from all walks of life, including trade unions, took part in the protest. The protesters, carrying placards and banners, chanted slogans against scrapping of Article 35-A.

In the frontier district of Kupwara, scores of residents from Tangdhar-Karnah area also held a protest demonstration in support of Article 35-A. The protesters who were carrying with pro-Article 35-A messages written on them also raised slogans against the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Meanwhile, a complete shutdown is being observed in Rajouri and Poonch of Pir Panjal region of Jammu and Kashmir against the attempts to abrogate Article 35-A.

In Rajouri, most of the business establishments in main town including Gujjar Mandi market, Kheora market, Abdullah bridge market and several other parts remained closed while private passenger vehicles were off the roads, affecting normal life in the district. Likewise, in Poonch, a complete shudtdown is being observed against the abrogation of Article 35-A.
