Civilian killed in clashes during search operation in Pulwama

A civilian, identified as Fayaz Ahmad Wani, was killed in clashes during a massive search operation by armed forces in South Kashmir’s Pulwama on Monday.

Reports said that protesters hurled stones on the forces’ vehicles during a cordon-and-search-operation in the village. Armed forces clashed with protesters during the search operation in Gusoo village and fired live ammunition on them.

The forces, they said, responded by firing tear gas, pellets and live ammunition. The civilian, Fayaz, son of Muhammad Ahsan Wani of Chewa-Kalan, was injured during the clashes.

Dr Saleem Tak, Medical Superintendent of SMHS hospital, said the civilian was declared dead on arrival at the facility.

“He had suffered a bullet injury in head,” said Dr Tak.

Earlier, a cordon and search operation (CASO) was launched in a massive scale in over a dozen villages in Pulwama, South Kashmir on Monday.

Reports said that soldiers of Army’s 55 RR, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Special Operations Group (SOG) personnel laid a siege around as many as 15 villages of the district today morning.

They said the villages where door-to-door searches were going on include Rohmu, Below, Mitrigam, Gasu, Chek, Mirgund,  Chek, Sheikhpora, Hanjan, Frasipura and Kamrazipura.
